In my opinion, you may not be present on-site during the whole implementation, however, it is very important to go on-site on an implementation project.
I'm a PP consultant and knowing the manufacturing process in detail is very important to propose the best solution for the customer.
Also, there is a lot of discussion on the blue print and on the knowledge transfer phases, therefore, the on-site presence is very important.
